Neighbors Find Deceased Man in Tel Aviv Apartment While Wishing Him a Happy New Year

A man in his 70s was found dead in his Tel Aviv apartment on Thursday, shortly before the Jewish New Year. Neighbors had gone to his home to wish him a happy holiday and discovered the grim scene.

According to initial reports, the neighbors repeatedly knocked on the man's door but received no answer. Growing concerned for his well-being, they attempted to open the door, which was apparently unlocked. They were then shocked to find the man deceased inside.

ZAKA volunteers, an emergency response organization, were dispatched to the scene on Gadud HaIvri Street. "Upon arriving at the scene, we found a man in his 70s without life, after a considerable amount of time had apparently passed since his death. The scene was difficult and the treatment was complex," said ZAKA volunteers Yochai Einay and Haim Ben Senior.

The volunteers added that the neighbors recounted their intention to wish him a happy new year, but upon finding him unresponsive, entered and discovered his body. ZAKA volunteers worked to preserve the dignity of the deceased and assisted police forces.

The deceased was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for further investigation into the circumstances of his death. ZAKA noted that it regularly handles similar incidents, citing a case two weeks prior in Bnei Brak where a man in his 70s was found dead in his apartment after neighbors reported a strong odor.
