Decomposing Body of Elderly Man Found in Bnei Brak Apartment

The decomposing body of a man, estimated to be around 70 years old, was discovered on Monday in an apartment on Jabotinsky Street in Bnei Brak, Israel. ZAKA (Search and Rescue) volunteers responded to the scene after neighbors reported a strong, foul odor emanating from the residence. Upon entering the apartment, they found the man deceased and in an advanced state of decomposition.

ZAKA volunteers worked to preserve the dignity of the deceased, collect evidence, and assist forensic investigators. Avraham Shtiglitz, a ZAKA team leader, and Moti Derai, a ZAKA volunteer, described the difficult scene, noting that the neighbors' alert led to the discovery. The body was subsequently transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for further examination.

Following the incident, ZAKA Director-General Zvi Chassid issued a public appeal, highlighting a concerning rise in cases where elderly and isolated individuals are found deceased long after their passing. He urged the public to remain vigilant and maintain contact with elderly neighbors, emphasizing that such connections can be life-saving. ZAKA reiterated its request for the public to stay in touch with seniors living alone and to report any unusual lack of contact or visibility.
