A 67-year-old solitary man was found dead in his apartment on Ben-Gurion Street in Kiryat Malakhi after a neighbor, worried because she had not seen him for several days, called emergency services. The call reached the ZAKA 1220 center around 11:35 p.m., and responders arrived to a strong odor coming from the home.
Firefighters were forced to break into the apartment, where the man was discovered with no signs of life and in an advanced stage of decomposition. Initial estimates indicate that he had remained in the apartment for more than a week after dying.
ZAKA volunteers from the Lachish district, specifically the Kiryat Malakhi team, were dispatched to the scene and worked to preserve the deceased's dignity and collect evidence. The team said the deceased was an alone, 67-year-old man whose neighbor alerted authorities after not seeing him for days.
The responders identified themselves as Aharon Zano, senior commander of ZAKA Kiryat Malakhi, together with volunteers Moshe Weber, Nati Shachaf and Yogev Malich Parkash. They said the smell was already very strong when they arrived and confirmed that the body was found after firefighters opened the door.
