The Ministry of Environmental Protection has reported the capture of mosquitoes infected with the West Nile virus in the southern city of Ashdod. The ministry is providing detailed instructions to the Ashdod municipality to expand preventive and control operations against the virus.
Residents are advised to take personal protective measures to avoid mosquito bites. These include using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, especially during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active, and ensuring window and door screens are intact to prevent entry into homes. Additionally, eliminating standing water sources around homes and public areas is crucial, as these serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
