Ben Gurion Airport Prepares for Record Holiday Travel Amid Security Concerns

Ben Gurion Airport is undergoing extensive preparations for an anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming holiday season, expecting approximately 2.5 million travelers. On peak days, the daily passenger volume is projected to reach 100,000. The Israel Airports Authority has stated that operations are running normally, with flights adhering to their schedules. To mitigate potential delays and prevent a recurrence of recent baggage system malfunctions, additional personnel have been deployed. These measures follow significant disruptions last month, attributed to staff leaving shifts prematurely.

In parallel with the increased passenger load, security services and military police have reported incidents involving individuals attempting to evade military service. In recent days, dozens of army deserters were apprehended at the airport terminals. These individuals were reportedly planning to travel to Ukraine via transit flights for a pilgrimage to the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov in Uman. Among those detained were two soldiers who were removed from a Wizz Air flight bound for Poland just before departure.

The Israel Airports Authority advises passengers to arrive well in advance for check-in, to verify flight schedules, and to have all necessary documents ready before reaching the terminal.
