IDF Eliminates Hamas Commander Involved in October 7th Killing
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have eliminated a Hamas operative identified as Ismail Ibrahim Darwish Kandil, a member of Hamas's elite "Nukhba" unit, in an operation in the Gaza Strip. The IDF stated that Kandil was involved in the October 7th invasion of Israel and participated in the killing of Colonel Yonatan Steinberg, commander of the Nahal Brigade.
The strike occurred earlier this week in the Khan Yunis area of southern Gaza. According to the IDF, Kandil was actively engaged in preparing attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and was working to restore Hamas's military capabilities, while also systematically violating ceasefire agreements.
The IDF emphasized that Kandil posed an immediate threat, and his elimination was carried out to neutralize this danger. Forces from the IDF's Southern Command remain in the area and are prepared to act against any emerging threats.
This operation follows other recent IDF actions in Gaza. Earlier, the IDF struck a Hamas police facility in Gaza City, reportedly killing at least six militants, including a Hamas commander who infiltrated Israel on October 7th. Additionally, the IDF recently targeted a private residence in central Gaza, eliminating several senior Hamas members.
