IDF Eliminates Hamas Fighter Involved in Killing Nahal Brigade Commander
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the elimination of a Hamas operative, Ismail Ibrahim Darwish Kandil, in the southern Gaza Strip's Khan Younis area. The IDF stated that Kandil was part of the "Nukhba" unit and infiltrated Israel during the October 7, 2023, attack, where he participated in the killing of Colonel Yonatan Steinberg, commander of the Nahal Brigade.
According to the army, Kandil had recently been involved in preparing attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and was working to restore Hamas's capabilities. The IDF asserted that these activities were conducted in systematic violation of the ceasefire.
The military stated that Kandil was eliminated to neutralize the threat he posed. Prior to the strike, the IDF reported taking measures to minimize risks to civilians, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance.
