Israeli Pediatric Specialists Travel to Vanuatu for Medical Aid Program

A delegation of pediatric specialists from Jerusalem's Hadassah Medical Center has traveled to Vanuatu as part of the "Tevel, Children" program. Led by Professor Saar Hashavia, head of pediatrics and deputy director of Hadassah Ein Kerem, the team focuses on emergency and intensive care for children. The initiative, organized in cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to enhance pediatric medicine in Vanuatu through sustained collaboration with local hospitals and clinics.

The program involves not only sharing expertise but also mutual learning and ongoing communication. The delegation brought medical equipment and educational materials, conducting training sessions for local healthcare professionals. This collaborative effort and exchange of knowledge are expected to continue even after the team's return to Israel.

Hadassah stated its goal is to showcase the strengths of Israeli medicine, including modern techniques, innovation, and a commitment to providing aid universally. Vanuatu, a remote island nation in the Pacific Ocean, faces significant challenges in delivering advanced medical care to its dispersed population due to limited resources and geographical isolation.

The Hadassah team journeyed thousands of kilometers to impart knowledge and skills to their Vanuatuan counterparts. Their training covered point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for emergencies, pediatric emergency medicine, and the medical transport of critically ill children. The "Tevel, Children" program, previously active primarily in Africa under Professor Hashavia's guidance, seeks to build local capacity in pediatric care through long-term partnerships with healthcare systems in developing nations.
