Chief Rabbi David Yosef Visits Prisons to Offer Spiritual Guidance

The Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi David Yosef, who also serves as the president of the Great Rabbinical Court, conducted a significant visit to Israel Prison Service (IPS) facilities. The tour aimed to bring "holiday light" to inmates and staff during the High Holy Days period.

Rabbi Yosef began his visit at the office of the Commissioner of the Israel Prison Service, Kobi Yaakobi, where he participated in a festive toast with senior IPS officials, including the Prison Service Rabbi, the head of the Prisoner Affairs Department, and the commander of the Central District. During his remarks, Rabbi Yosef praised the IPS's efforts in strengthening governance while maintaining humanity and promoting rehabilitation programs.

Continuing his tour, Rabbi Yosef visited the Nitzan detention facility, delivering inspiring Torah lessons and words of encouragement to both staff and detainees. He later attended a festive toast for the command and staff of the Central District, acknowledging the operational challenges faced by correctional officers and connecting their daily mission to the values of the Day of Judgment and public responsibility.

The visit concluded with a Torah class in the religious wing of Ayalon Prison, focusing on spiritual upliftment and preparation for the upcoming new year. This visit is part of broader IPS activities, including recent large-scale enforcement operations in the Northern District where nine individuals evading prison sentences were arrested, and other incidents where officers maintained order.
