Anti-Israel Protest Erupts Outside Embassy in Bangkok

Dozens of anti-Israel protesters gathered outside the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, demonstrating against the activities of Israeli tourists, businesspeople, and Chabad centers in the country. The protest, led by nationalist activist Sondhi Limthongkul and members of the "Network of Students and People for Thailand Reform," also included accusations against Israel related to the ongoing war in Gaza.

Protesters attempted to deliver a letter to the embassy detailing their demands, which included allegations that Israelis have violated Thai laws, caused disturbances, and disrespected local customs. Limthongkul claimed that embassy officials were unavailable to receive the letter, though the Israeli ambassador, Alona Fisher-Kam, reportedly offered to speak with him privately through police intermediaries. The letter also called for cooperation with investigations into land acquisition and business operations by Israelis using Thai nominees, and questioned the expansion of Chabad centers.

One speaker at the rally drew parallels between Israel's treatment of Thailand and its actions towards Palestinians. The protest occurred two days after the Thai Foreign Minister met with Ambassador Fisher-Kam, expressing expectations for more significant action regarding Israeli tourist behavior. The ambassador proposed creating and distributing a guide for Israeli visitors.

The demonstration is part of a campaign called "Take Back Our Thailand," which opposes what organizers term "grey foreign capital" and targets business activities involving various foreign nationals, not exclusively Israelis. However, the initial event focused specifically on the Israeli embassy and featured explicit anti-Israel messaging.
