Teen Charged with Assaulting Amputee Palestinian with Metal Bar

Police prosecutors have filed an indictment against a 16-year-old resident of Avigail, in the Hebron Regional Council, who was filmed attacking and hitting a Palestinian man with a metal bar. The victim, who is an amputee and uses crutches, had his leg amputated after being shot by another settler near his home. The footage of the assault, which has circulated internationally, shows the suspect, identified by his kippah and visible face, striking the Palestinian man on the back with a metal bar as the victim bent to pick up one of his crutches.

According to police, the investigation into the teen's involvement in several incidents, including property damage, unlicensed driving, and violent offenses, concluded with the indictment. The suspect was arrested on August 22 by officers from the Hebron station. His detention was periodically extended by the court. Following the prosecution's declaration of intent to indict, an agreement was reached for his release to house arrest.

In addition to the assault on the amputee, the indictment details two other cases of violence and property damage against the teen this year. In one incident, the teen and another youth allegedly took a farm tractor without permission and drove it without a license or insurance. They later confronted the Palestinian man near his home, threatened him and his family, and assaulted him. The indictment includes charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, unlicensed and uninsured driving, threats, assault, and willful property damage.

The police requested that the teen be released under restrictive conditions and remain under house arrest, pending the legal proceedings.
