Jewish Teen Arrested After Jerusalem Old City Clash While Arab Attacker Remains Free

A violent confrontation in Jerusalem's Old City about a week ago resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old Jewish boy, while the Arab assailant allegedly responsible for the attack was not detained. The incident occurred after a group of Jewish youths returned from the traditional 'Simchat Beit HaShoevah' celebrations during the month of Av. According to the boy's family and lawyer, an Arab resident of the Old City assaulted the teenagers, physically attacking them and swinging a motorcycle helmet in an attempt to harm them. One of the Jewish youths managed to restrain the attacker, preventing further violence.

Shortly after the altercation, police arrived and arrested the Jewish minor, but the Arab attacker was released. The teen, represented by attorney Daniel Shemshilashvili from the Honenu organization, has been held in custody since the incident. The family insists that video evidence shows their son acted in defense of his friends. They criticized the police for repeatedly arresting Jewish individuals in violent incidents while releasing Arab suspects, stating, "This situation cannot continue. We feel they are trying to frame our son, who was protecting his friends."

Attorney Shemshilashvili confirmed ongoing legal efforts to secure the teen's release and to hold the attackers accountable. He described the investigation unit's portrayal of the event as "unacceptable attempts to distort what actually happened," emphasizing their commitment to a vigorous legal battle on the boy's behalf.
