Jewish Youth Severely Injured in West Bank Attack as Suspect Is Released

On July 2, three Jewish youths returning to their car near Jerusalem's Old City were violently attacked by a group of Arab youths. The assailants hurled insults, spat at them, and threw heavy objects from rooftops, including a concrete block that struck one victim's head, fracturing his skull and causing serious injuries. The injured young man was hospitalized at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, while his two friends also sustained injuries. Despite the victims filing a police complaint, the only suspect arrested has since been released.

Attorney Chaim Bleicher from the legal organization Honenu submitted a representation notice and information request to Jerusalem District Commander Asaf Abshalom Feld, describing the assault as a racially motivated attempted murder. Bleicher emphasized that the attackers and victims had no prior acquaintance and that the attack posed a real threat to the victims' lives. He demanded the police arrest and prosecute all suspects, especially the individual who threw the heavy block. Additionally, Honenu called for sealing the house from which the block was thrown, alleging it served as a hideout for the attacker.

Bleicher criticized the release of the sole suspect as sending a dangerous message that could encourage further attacks on Jews. He pledged that Honenu would continue supporting the victims until justice is served.
