Israel Simulates Major Terror Attack in Eilat Following October 7 Lessons

Israeli security forces conducted a large-scale exercise in Eilat simulating a major terrorist attack, three years after the October 7 events. The drill, held as the Tichri holidays approach, aimed to learn from the failures of October 7 and prepare for future threats. The scenario included a mass infiltration by sea, hostage-taking, artillery fire, and the seizure of military and civilian sites.

Helicopters, sirens, and significant security and rescue units were mobilized in the southern Israeli tourist city. A key focus was the Eilat hotel zone, which is heavily populated during the holidays. Forces practiced responses tailored to a city with many fully booked hotels.

"The next October 7 will take place in Eilat," stated the head of the Shin Bet, highlighting the city's vulnerability. Lieutenant Colonel N., responsible for home front defense in the 80th Division, emphasized intensive preparation with all relevant parties to ensure public safety during the holidays.

The police also stressed the importance of maintaining high readiness outside of tense periods. A negotiation unit officer noted that Eilat's concentration of hotels requires specific strategies for hostage situations. The exercise simulated simultaneous chaos on multiple fronts in a city vulnerable during peak tourist season, going beyond simply replicating October 7 scenarios.
