Eilat Security Forces Conduct Large-Scale Terror Drill Ahead of Holidays

Security forces in Eilat conducted an extensive drill simulating a large-scale terror attack, including a mass infiltration by sea, kidnappings, artillery fire, and the seizure of military and civilian targets. The exercise, which took place shortly before the upcoming holidays and three years after the October 7th massacre, aimed to prepare for future threats.

The drill involved simulating a raid on the hotel district, with helicopters and sirens disrupting the resort city's usual quiet. Security and emergency forces practiced scenarios based on lessons learned from the October 7th events. Lieutenant Colonel N., Head of the Home Front Command's Rear Section in Division 80, stated the forces are preparing thoroughly to ensure Israelis can celebrate the holidays safely.

Police negotiation unit officer A.S. highlighted Eilat's unique vulnerability due to its numerous hotels, emphasizing the need for specific planning for such facilities. The exercise simulated deliberate chaos to train forces for potential future events, particularly during peak holiday seasons when hotels are fully occupied.

Tourists and residents expressed their reactions to the drill. Tourist Simone Ben Khalifa described seeing soldiers attacking from various areas, noting the "action." Eilat resident Raz Pilos expressed confidence in the security forces, stating, "We need to be protected here. We are the best city in the country in the end, and it needs to be protected. There is full security here. They protect us on land, in the air, and at sea."
