UN Nuclear Watchdog Reports Iran to Security Council on Proliferation Violations

The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) Board of Governors has approved a resolution referring Iran to the UN Security Council for violating its nuclear non-proliferation commitments. This marks the first time in two decades that the IAEA has taken such a step.

The decision follows a previous resolution passed on June 12 of last year, just one day before Israel reportedly bombed Iranian nuclear facilities. Shortly thereafter, the United States also concluded that Iran was not meeting its obligations.

Diplomats confirmed the development, highlighting its significance as a rare escalation in international scrutiny of Iran's nuclear program. The referral signifies a formal acknowledgment by the IAEA that Iran's actions warrant the attention of the UN's highest security body.
