Approximately 450,000 households have switched to private electricity suppliers since July 2024, according to the Israel Electricity Authority. In August alone, over 20,000 consumers changed providers in a single month. Consumers who switch to private suppliers can receive discounts ranging from 5% to 21% on their electricity bills, depending on the chosen plan. Deeper discounts are available for specific hours and require smart meters.

Tel Aviv saw the highest absolute number of households switching, with 31,680 out of 269,455 meters, representing 11.8% of households. However, Bnei Brak recorded the highest percentage of switches among major cities with over 200,000 residents, at nearly 20.9%. In Bnei Brak, 11,261 out of 53,976 meters switched.

Other cities with high switch percentages include Petah Tikva (20.7%), Rishon LeZion (20.1%), Ashdod, Netanya, Jerusalem, Beersheba, and Haifa (9.7%). Among cities with 100,000 to 200,000 residents, Ramat Gan leads in absolute numbers with 14,006 switches (16.5%), while Modi'in leads in percentage with over 28% (approximately 10,300 switches).

Modi'in Illit leads the country in percentage of switches among medium-large cities (50,000-100,000 residents) with approximately 33% (4,194 switches). Rosh HaAyin follows with 25% (6,771 switches), and Yavne with 23% (4,504 switches).

In smaller cities (20,000-50,000 residents), Kiryat Ono leads in absolute numbers with 4,490 switches (24.4%), while Be'er Yaakov leads in percentage with 29% (3,537 switches). Shoham and Zichron Yaakov also show high switch percentages at 26% each.

While private suppliers like Cellcom, Partner, and Bezeq handle billing and offer discounts, the electricity infrastructure remains with the Israel Electric Corporation. Most consumers still receive bills from the IEC, and many have analog meters that do not qualify for the deepest discounts. Energy Minister Eli Cohen hailed the reform as the most significant since the cellular reform, saving families hundreds to thousands of shekels annually and breaking the IEC's monopoly.
