Israel Considers Sanctions Against France Over West Bank Settlements

Israel is reportedly considering imposing retaliatory sanctions against France and other nations that have taken steps against settlements in Judea and Samaria. This potential move follows similar, already implemented measures against the United Kingdom, which included canceling the activity of a command center in Kiryat Gat and closing a consulate representative office.

Sources familiar with the matter indicated that Israel's political leadership is examining a similar approach to the one taken against the UK. While the closure of the British consulate in East Jerusalem is expected within weeks, military personnel at the Kiryat Gat facility were immediately ordered to vacate the premises and remove equipment.

The UK has described Israel's reaction as "exaggerated," asserting that their actions were not directed against Israel but were a response to extremists and violence. Israel's Foreign Ministry also decided to ban entry for 12 British public figures and citizens involved in anti-Semitic and anti-Israel activities who deny Israel's right to exist.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar stated that the Labour Party's move was particularly absurd given the Balfour Declaration, which recognized the Jewish people's right to establish Israel in its homeland, including Judea and Samaria. He characterized the actions as a "blatant and unacceptable attempt by a foreign government to influence during an election period," adding that Israelis did not return after 2,000 years to lose their land to "Islamist jihadists" and that Palestinians would also be directly harmed by these measures.
