Amir Agayev Returns to Football After Retirement, Joins Lower League Team

MakoCenter
Translated & summarized from Mako by baba
The story · English

Amir Agayev, a midfielder who previously played for Beitar Jerusalem and Omonia Nicosia, is making a comeback to professional football after retiring 18 months ago. Agayev officially joined Gisin 1912 Petah Tikva, a team founded by fans of Maccabi Petah Tikva that competes in Liga Gimel, Israel's fifth tier of football.

Agayev, now 34, had announced his retirement in January 2025 while playing for MS Dimona in Liga Alef. His career, spanning 16 years, began in the youth system of Bnei Yehuda, where he also played his first seven years as a senior player. He later moved to Omonia Nicosia in the 2016/17 season, notably scoring against Beitar Jerusalem in Europa League qualifiers. He returned to Bnei Yehuda but was sidelined by injury, subsequently playing for Beitar Jerusalem and Hapoel Tel Aviv.

His career also included stints abroad with Sumgayit in Azerbaijan and Atromitos in Greece. Upon returning to Israel, he played for MS Ashdod, Maccabi Bnei Raina, and had another season with Bnei Yehuda, followed by spells at Ness Ziona, Umm al-Fahm, and finally MS Dimona before his initial retirement.
