Amir Agayev Returns to Football After Retirement, Joins Liga Gimel Club
Midfielder Amir Agayev, who announced his retirement from professional football a year and a half ago, is making a comeback. Agayev, 34, has officially joined Gissin 1912 Petah Tikva, a team founded by Maccabi Petah Tikva fans that competes in Liga Gimel, Israel's fifth tier.
Agayev initially retired in January 2025 while playing for MS Dimona in Liga Alef. His career spanned 16 years, beginning with his youth development and early senior years at Bnei Yehuda. He also had stints with Beitar Jerusalem and Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus, where he scored against Beitar Jerusalem in Europa League qualifiers during the 2016/17 season. After returning to Bnei Yehuda, he struggled to integrate due to injury.
His extensive playing history includes time with Hapoel Tel Aviv, clubs abroad such as Sumgayit in Azerbaijan and Atromitos in Greece, and several Israeli teams including MS Ashdod, Maccabi Bnei Raina, Neve Shalom, and Umm al-Fahm. His last club before retiring was MS Dimona.
Agayev's return to the pitch at 34 marks a new chapter in his football journey with the fan-established club.
