IDF Chief of Staff Sends Stark Warning to Turkey on Naval Power

The Israeli military is significantly bolstering its naval capabilities and establishing a new branch dedicated to unmanned systems and artificial intelligence, according to statements made by the IDF Chief of Staff and the Navy Commander. Speaking at a naval officers' course completion ceremony in Haifa, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Eyal Harel issued a direct warning to those seeking to alter the balance of power in the Mediterranean Sea. "To those who seek to change the balance of power in the Mediterranean Sea, I say, we see, we monitor, we are preparing. We will be everywhere, openly and secretly," Harel stated, emphasizing the sea's critical role as Israel's main artery to the world.

Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi elaborated on the military's multi-year "Hosen" plan, which prioritizes naval development. He confirmed that the INS Drakon submarine is en route to Israel, with further advanced naval assets, including Reshef-class missile ships, set to enhance operational range and lethality. "The battlefield is changing at a dizzying pace, and we are changing with it," Kochavi remarked, announcing the imminent establishment of a new branch for unmanned systems and artificial intelligence, slated to be inaugurated during the Hanukkah holiday. This new branch will focus on developing robotic capabilities for land, sea, and air, operating alongside manned forces or independently to increase operational activity and save lives.

Kochavi also reiterated a warning to terror groups, stating that while Iran and its proxies have been weakened, their threats remain. He highlighted that naval routes are a target and the struggle for maritime superiority is ongoing. "We are alert and prepared for any development, in any arena," he assured.

Addressing the current political climate within Israel, the Chief of Staff stressed the importance of maintaining national unity within the IDF. "The IDF is the people's army... In a time when public discourse can be harsh and divisive, we must ensure that disagreements remain outside the IDF," he urged the graduating officers, emphasizing their role as exemplars of unity.
