IDF Chief of Staff Warns Iran and Its Allies Weakened but Still a Threat
IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi delivered remarks at a naval officers' course completion ceremony, highlighting the imminent arrival of Israel's sixth submarine, the INS "Dragon." He described the submarine's arrival in the Mediterranean as symbolizing the navy's transformation into a powerful strategic arm capable of reaching any target in the Middle East and beyond.
Halevi reflected on the ongoing conflict since October 7th, characterizing it as a prolonged, unprecedented, and multi-front war for national existence. He stated that Israel has moved from defense to offense, and from failure to victory, having removed existential threats, secured the release of hostages, and significantly degraded enemy capabilities. He emphasized a shift in security doctrine from "containment" to proactive threat elimination.
The Chief of Staff asserted that Israel will not permit the creation of existential threats by radical enemies or the establishment of terror organizations on its borders. He credited the navy with playing a crucial role in the war, supporting ground forces in nearby theaters and independently leading operations in distant ones, citing actions in Bab al-Mandab, Beirut, Lebanese ports, and off the coast of Gaza as proof of the IDF's long reach.
Addressing the threat from Iran and its allies, Halevi acknowledged they have been weakened but stressed they have not disappeared. He noted that their plans and capabilities to threaten Israel have been severely damaged, and that Iran's nuclear program has been impacted. He affirmed that Israel remains vigilant and prepared for any development in any theater, particularly concerning maritime security.
Concluding his remarks, Halevi underscored the IDF's identity as the "army of the people," drawing strength from the public. He urged commanders to set an example of unity and loyalty, ensuring that public disputes remain outside the military, emphasizing that the ship's crew, like the IDF, must be united and focused on its mission.
