Maccabi Tel Aviv's Keeton Wallace Explains Jersey Number Choice

New Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball player Keeton Wallace has revealed the reasoning behind his choice of jersey number 17. In an interview with Euroleague.net, Wallace explained that he and his family researched the significance of numbers and found that 17 symbolizes new beginnings, a fitting choice for his transition to a new country and team.

Wallace, 27, joined Maccabi Tel Aviv after spending last season with the Atlanta Hawks, helping them reach the NBA playoffs. Facing a decision between pursuing an NBA spot or moving to Europe, he was contacted by Maccabi's professional manager, Claudio Coldebella. Wallace described the conversation as positive and felt that Maccabi was the best option among several offers.

Wallace is known for his versatility as a guard. His initial weeks with Maccabi have focused on adapting to coach Oded Katash's system and basketball philosophy. He described the learning process as demanding but enjoyable, stating that Katash has taught him a different way to play. Wallace is still in the early stages of integration, having played only one preseason game and feeling he has much more to learn about the team and the game's pace.

While Wallace has not yet made his Euroleague debut, he respects the league's competitiveness and is eager to experience it. He believes his versatile skillset, including playing multiple guard positions, scoring, passing, and defending, will translate well to European basketball. He also credited teammates Bonzie Colson, John DiBartolomeo, Amit Aboo, and Nitai Dudu for helping him adjust to his new environment.
