Israel's Weather Service Predicts Unusually Rainy Autumn

Israel's Meteorological Service has issued an unusual long-term forecast predicting a particularly rainy autumn for October, November, and December, with unstable weather expected across the region. The forecast was released ahead of the Jewish High Holidays. Currently, Tuesday, September 8, remains warm and dry, but temperatures are expected to drop starting Wednesday, September 9, returning to seasonal norms by Thursday, September 10. The service has provided its forecast to various government agencies to allow for early preparation and infrastructure reinforcement against anticipated heavy rainfall.

Long-range models indicate that each of the next three months will see precipitation levels exceeding the average. October is projected to be the wettest month, with rainfall potentially double the average. Given that October rainfall can be intense and unevenly distributed, the service warns of a high probability of flooding in coastal cities and low-lying areas in the south and east of the country.

While the start of the autumn season in 2015 also brought rain, the Meteorological Service noted that the total rainfall nationwide during that period was significantly less severe than what current models predict for the upcoming months.
