Organizers of a play featuring actor John Malkovich in Israel have retracted a "warm message" attributed to the star, stating it was mistakenly distributed and not his actual quote. The initial statement, released about a week prior to September 7, quoted Malkovich as saying he was "happy to return to Israel" and looked forward to seeing the "warm Israeli public."
On the morning of September 7, the organizers requested the removal of the fabricated quote. Producer Alon Yurik clarified that an error occurred during the initial press release distribution, leading to an incorrect quote being sent due to a misunderstanding. Yurik apologized for the mistake and expressed confidence that Malkovich's performance would resonate with the Israeli audience.
The Hollywood Reporter also published an article on September 6 about Malkovich's upcoming visit, which included the initial, erroneous quote. The report noted that international performances in Israel have become infrequent due to boycotts and disruptions related to the ongoing regional conflict.
Malkovich is scheduled to visit Israel on April 13, 2027, to perform "The Music Critic" at Tel Aviv's Heichal HaTarbut.
