John Malkovich Production Clarifies Misattributed Israel Remarks

The production team for actor John Malkovich's upcoming show in Israel has issued a correction regarding previous statements attributed to the star. A week after it was reported that Malkovich expressed excitement about returning to Israel and connecting with the local audience, the production clarified that the "warm message" was sent in error and is not a direct quote from the actor.

The original announcement had stated, "I am excited to return to Israel and will be very happy to meet the warm Israeli audience again, to whom I feel great closeness and identification. I hope to see you happy and optimistic. Sending you much love."

However, producer Alon Yurik released an updated statement on Monday, stating, "I welcome the arrival of actor John Malkovich in Israel. The show has received many accolades worldwide, and I am sure it will also excite the Israeli audience. I wish to clarify that in the original press release, a mistake was made and an incorrect quote from Malkovich was sent, which stemmed from a misunderstanding. I take this opportunity to apologize for it."

This clarification comes after a Hollywood Reporter article published on Sunday also cited Malkovich's original remarks. The report noted that the news of his visit arrives at a time when international performances in Israel are rare due to ongoing regional conflict, which has led to disruptions and boycotts.

Malkovich is scheduled to perform "The Music Critic" at the Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Tel Aviv on April 13, 2027. The show is a satirical performance featuring monologues based on real reviews of composers, accompanied by live classical music. This will mark his third visit to Israel for a cultural event, having previously performed in 2008 and 2013.
