Israeli Police Officer Charged with Assaulting Teen in Rehab Facility

The Police Internal Investigations Department (Mahash) has filed a severe indictment against Amir Mazigit, a 45-year-old Israeli Police officer, for assaulting and threatening a teenage resident at the "Mitzpe Yam" youth rehabilitation center in Herzliya. The incident occurred in October 2025 when Mazigit was called to the facility after staff reported a 2007-born resident was acting out and holding a shovel.

According to the indictment, Mazigit approached the teen with his body camera activated. After the teen made a sarcastic remark in his room, Mazigit intentionally turned off his body camera. He then allegedly pushed the teen onto his bed, choked him until he had difficulty breathing, slapped him, and threatened him with a Taser, stating he would electrocute him. Mazigit reactivated his body camera only after the alleged assault concluded.

In addition to the violent acts and threats, Mazigit is accused of obstruction of justice. The indictment claims he deliberately omitted any mention of the violence he used against the teen in his official police report. The investigation was conducted by Mahash's coastal district investigation team.

Prosecutors indicated that if convicted, they may seek a prison sentence for Mazigit.
