Israeli Police Officer Charged with Assaulting Teen, Tampering with Evidence

An Israeli police officer has been indicted for allegedly assaulting a teenager at a youth rehabilitation center in Herzliya and attempting to conceal his actions. The indictment, filed by the Police Internal Investigations Department (Mahash) at the Haifa Magistrate's Court, charges the officer with assault, threats, and obstruction of justice.

According to the charges, the officer was called to the facility following a report of a teenager acting out with a shovel. After escorting the teen to his room, the officer allegedly turned off his body camera in response to a sarcastic remark from the boy. The indictment claims the officer then pushed the teen onto his bed, choked him, slapped him, and held a Taser to his head, threatening to use it.

The officer reportedly turned his body camera back on only after the alleged assault. Furthermore, it is claimed that the officer intentionally omitted the details of the violence from his official report of the incident. The investigation was conducted by the coastal district team of the Police Internal Investigations Department.
