Iranian-American Freed from Tehran Prison, Barred from Leaving Iran

Iranian sources reported on Monday that Kamran Fathi, an Iranian-American Jewish citizen, has been released from Evin Prison in Tehran. The release reportedly occurred on Saturday evening. However, Fathi remains under an exit ban from Iran, preventing him from returning to his home in the United States. Iranian authorities have not yet officially confirmed his release.

Fathi was arrested in July 2025 and subsequently imprisoned after a Tehran court convicted him. The conviction stemmed from a visit he made to Israel 13 years prior to his arrest, where he attended his son's bar mitzvah. According to his family and supporting organizations, the trial lasted only about ten minutes and proceeded without legal representation or witnesses.

Despite reports of his release from Evin Prison, Fathi is currently unable to leave Iran due to the ongoing travel ban. The duration of this ban, or if it will be lifted at all, remains unclear. No official statement from Iranian authorities has been issued to confirm the release or provide details on its conditions.
