Illegal Immigrant from Jenin Arrested for Stealing District Court Judge's Car

An illegal resident from Jenin, in his 40s, was arrested on Highway 5 in central Israel on suspicion of stealing the car of a district court judge. Police reported the arrest on Monday. The suspect was brought before a judge on Sunday, and his detention was extended until Tuesday. Police officers from the Tel Aviv North station spotted the vehicle and pursued it, while officers from the Glilot station prepared to block Highway 5. When the suspect reached the roadblock, he did not comply with police calls to stop and officers were forced to break the driver's side window to apprehend him. His identity was confirmed, and he was taken for questioning at the Tel Aviv North station. The car was returned to its owner.

In a separate incident two weeks prior, a car thief fleeing police in Jerusalem died in a self-inflicted accident. The unidentified suspect was evacuated from the scene in critical condition and pronounced dead at the hospital. A police officer and a civilian sustained minor injuries. The car theft was reported in the Katamon neighborhood of Jerusalem, and police units from the Moriah, Lev Habira, and Shalom stations identified the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. The suspect refused to obey police orders and fled recklessly, endangering officers and other road users, including driving against traffic. Police stated that officers felt in real danger and fired at the vehicle's tires, but the suspect continued his escape until he crashed into a pole and another car at the A-Tur junction in East Jerusalem.
