IDF Strikes Hamas Targets in Gaza After Engineering Vehicle Hits Bomb

The Israeli military conducted airstrikes against Hamas infrastructure in the Gaza Strip overnight Monday, following an incident where an Israeli engineering vehicle detonated a bomb planted by Hamas along the "blue line" in northern Gaza the previous day. No Israeli soldiers were harmed in the explosion. The IDF characterized the bomb detonation as a "blatant violation" of the ceasefire agreement.

According to the IDF spokesperson, the bomb was placed by Hamas and detonated in an area where forces operate according to the agreement. In response, the IDF targeted infrastructure used by the organization to advance terror plots against Israeli civilians and soldiers. The IDF stated that its forces in the Southern Command are deployed in the area according to the agreement and will continue to act to remove any immediate threat.

The incident occurs amid ongoing tensions along the Gaza border, with several recent events classified by the IDF as ceasefire violations. On September 4th, forces operating east of the border in northern Gaza were fired upon, also resulting in no casualties and a subsequent IDF strike. In August, an IDF tank struck a Hamas bomb near the border in southern Gaza, and two militants who crossed the border were killed. Later that month, another bomb exploded and gunfire was directed at forces in northern Gaza, with the IDF responding with strikes.
