Clalit Launches 2026-2027 Flu Vaccination Campaign

Clalit Health Services will begin its 2026-2027 winter flu vaccination campaign this week, aiming to administer over one million injected doses and 25,000 nasal spray vaccines for individuals aged two to 49. The vaccines will arrive in Israel through multiple shipments during September and October. Initially, vaccinations will be available at central clinics and designated sites, with the program expanding to all Clalit clinics nationwide as more doses become available.

The campaign is being launched immediately upon the arrival of the first shipment to allow early vaccination, particularly for at-risk populations. Ronen Nodelman, Deputy Director General of Clalit's Community Division, stated that the organization is prepared for a large-scale operation, noting that nearly one million patients were vaccinated last winter, with a 55% vaccination rate among those aged 65 and over.

Sefi Sobol Roitblat, Head of Nursing in the Community Division, emphasized the effectiveness and safety of the flu vaccine in reducing illness, complications like pneumonia, and hospitalizations. She highlighted that the vaccine can lower the risk of contracting the flu by 40%-60% and protects not only individuals but also their families and vulnerable populations.

Dr. Bat Sheva Gotsman, an infectious disease specialist, reminded the public that the flu can lead to severe illness and complications, including an increased risk of heart attack and stroke, and even myocarditis. She added that the vaccine helps prevent respiratory illnesses and their complications, and may also reduce the risk of cardiac events and strokes, especially in older adults and those with pre-existing conditions.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone aged six months and older, with particular emphasis on high-risk groups. These include individuals with chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney and liver disease, those with compromised immune systems, morbidly obese individuals, children aged six months to five years, adults aged 50 and over (especially 65+), pregnant women, and women within three months postpartum. Residents of long-term care facilities are also included. Clalit Mushlam members can receive a 50% subsidy on Tamiflu prescriptions at Clalit pharmacies.
