Prominent Rabbi's Wife and Seminary Founder Rivka Shapira Dies
Rabbi Rivka Shapira, a co-founder of the Shuva seminary and widow of Rabbi Moshe Shapira, passed away on Sunday. Her funeral is scheduled for Sunday evening at 10:00 PM in Ofra.
Shapira, daughter of Yaffa and Rabbi Chaim Schnor, established the Shuva seminary alongside her husband. Throughout her life, she educated generations of students and families, teaching Torah.
The Shuva seminary issued a statement mourning her passing, quoting "Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future." The statement described her life's work with her husband as establishing the seminary, educating students, and teaching Torah with grace and kindness. The seminary staff concluded their statement with the poignant question, "How will the world be without the moon?"
Rabbi Shapira is survived by her sons: Rabbi Yehoshua Shapira, head of the Ramat Gan Yeshiva; Rabbi Yitzchak (Itzik) Shapira, head of the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva in Yitzhar; and Matania Shapira, deputy director of the Yesha Council.
