Renowned Rebbetzin Shulamit Schiff Passes Away at 98, Honored in Monsey and Jerusalem

Rebbetzin Shulamit Schiff, a revered figure in the American Torah community and daughter of Rabbi Shraga Feivel Mandelovitz, passed away at the age of 98. Born in the United States, she moved to Monsey in 1943 when her father established the Ash Dat program and the prominent Beit Midrash Elyon yeshiva. She was known for her dedication to Torah, charity, and humility, deeply influenced by her father's legacy.

She married Rabbi Yehoshua (Shaia) Schiff and together they founded the Beit Shraga yeshiva in Monsey, named after her father. Rebbetzin Schiff was a pillar of support for her husband and students, opening her home to anyone in need and providing guidance and comfort. Her life was marked by devotion to Torah and the nurturing of future generations.

Her funeral took place in Monsey at the Beit Shraga yeshiva, attended by thousands including prominent American rabbinic leaders. Her body was then flown to Israel for burial on Har HaMenuchot in Jerusalem beside her husband. She is survived by her sons, Rabbis Emmanuel and Shraga Schiff, who continue to lead Torah institutions, and her daughters, the Berlin family. The family is sitting shiva in Jerusalem, with Rebbetzin Tova Berlin receiving visitors at her home.

Rebbetzin Schiff’s passing marks the loss of a noble and influential Torah matriarch whose legacy endures through her descendants and the institutions she helped build.
