Thousands Attend Funeral of Rebbetzin Rivka Faivelzon, Celebrated for Faith and Wisdom

Thousands gathered in tears to mourn the sudden passing of Rebbetzin Rivka (Riki) Faivelzon, leaving her family and community deeply shocked and grieving. The funeral procession included leading Torah scholars, rabbis, yeshiva heads, and a large crowd honoring her memory. She was the daughter of Rabbi Eliyahu Meir Faivelzon, head of Yeshivat Ptach Olam and a prominent disciple of Rabbi Moshe Shapira. In his eulogy, her father portrayed her as a woman of exceptional wisdom and spiritual purity, who balanced deep intellectual engagement with simple, heartfelt prayer.

In her final weeks, Rivka committed to praying daily for forty days at the Western Wall, often extending her prayers beyond twenty minutes. From childhood, she displayed a passionate desire to understand and deepen her faith, famously asking profound questions during Passover seders that became a family tradition of late-night study. Her father emphasized that her lifelong pursuit was to build a stronger faith, integrating intellect with devotion.

Rivka was also known for her extraordinary sensitivity and loyalty to family and friends, always attentive to others' pain and eager to bring joy or comfort. She maintained a close bond with her parents, caring deeply for their well-being, and regularly studied "Mesilat Yesharim" with her grandfather despite his hearing difficulties. Her empathy extended beyond family, exemplified by an encounter where she comforted a child labeled "bad" by her grandmother, demonstrating her gentle approach to others.

Though she had no children of her own, Rivka influenced many through her podcasts and talks on faith and divine service, strengthening the spiritual lives of numerous students and listeners. Rabbi Shalom Ber Sorotzkin, head of Yeshivat Ateret Shlomo, also eulogized her, highlighting the profound loss to the Torah world and praising her father’s leadership in faith and prayer. Rabbi Eliyahu Zilberman joined in mourning alongside the family.

The funeral concluded with thousands accompanying her final journey, remembering a woman who combined wisdom and thought with simple prayer, loyalty, and love for humanity. Her soul was prayed to be bound in the bond of life.
