Ultra-Orthodox IDF Battalion Concludes Six-Month Tour in Southern Lebanon

The Jonathan Battalion, part of the Hasmonean Brigade, has completed a six-month operational deployment in southern Lebanon. The ultra-Orthodox soldiers, who operated under the command of Brigades 300 and 679, conducted a variety of missions including border defense, locating and destroying Hezbollah weapons and infrastructure, uncovering underground shafts, and identifying rocket launchers aimed at Israel. The battalion is now leaving the area for a period of rest and retraining before being redeployed to other fronts.

During their time off, the soldiers will participate in a battalion-wide exercise to maintain their operational readiness and combat skills. This period will also include study sessions and meetings with rabbis, aimed at fostering spiritual growth and reinforcing their ultra-Orthodox identity. The IDF Spokesperson described the battalion's activities as diverse and crucial for security.

Brigadier General Yuval Gaze, commander of Division 91, praised the Jonathan Battalion for its rapid formation and operational effectiveness. He noted that the battalion, which typically takes years to establish and train, achieved full combat readiness within 18 months, including entering active combat. Gaze highlighted the soldiers' ability to combine strong faith with uncompromising professionalism, emphasizing their crucial role in the fight against Hezbollah and the defense of Israel.
