Esther Roth-Shahamorov's Olympic Shoes Donated to Museum

Fifty-four years after the Munich Olympics massacre, the athletic shoes of Israeli Olympian Esther Roth-Shahamorov, worn during her training for the 1972 games, have been transferred to the Olympic Experience Museum in Kfar Maccabiah. The shoes were previously held by the Jerusalem Municipality after being loaned for a special exhibition ahead of the Jerusalem Marathon several years ago. Roth-Shahamorov, one of Israel's greatest athletes, was part of the Israeli delegation to the Munich Olympics, which was tragically marred by the killing of 11 Israeli athletes by Palestinian terrorists. The donation, made with the blessing of Roth-Shahamorov and her family, aims to preserve a significant piece of Israeli and Jewish sports history. The shoes will join other notable artifacts in the museum's collection, including items belonging to Olympic medalists Gal Fridman and Yael Arad, and Maccabi Tel Aviv's 1977 European Championship trophy. Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion stated that the donation honors not only the memory of the 11 slain athletes but also the resilience of Israeli athletes who continued to represent the nation. The museum's director, Osnat Tzur, expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing the museum's role in preserving and showcasing these historical items.
