Esther Roth-Shahamorov's Olympic Shoes Donated to Museum

Fifty-four years after the Munich Olympics massacre, the athletic shoes of Israeli Olympian Esther Roth-Shahamorov, worn during her training for the 1972 games, have been transferred to the World Jewish Sports Museum in Kfar Maccabiah. The shoes were previously held by the Jerusalem Municipality after being loaned for a special exhibition prior to the Jerusalem Marathon.

Roth-Shahamorov, one of Israel's greatest athletes, was part of the Israeli delegation to the Munich Olympics. The shoes will now be preserved and displayed to the public, joining other significant artifacts in the museum's collection, including items belonging to Olympic medalists Gal Fridman and Yael Arad, and Maccabi Tel Aviv's 1977 European Championship basketball trophy.

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion stated that the donation aims to preserve not only the memory of the 11 Israeli athletes murdered in Munich but also the stories of Israeli athletes who continued to represent the country. He described Roth-Shahamorov's shoes as a moving historical item representing a generation of Israeli sports.

Osnat Tzur, director of the World Jewish Sports Museum, expressed gratitude to Roth-Shahamorov and her family for entrusting the shoes to the museum for preservation and display. She also thanked the Jerusalem Municipality for safeguarding the shoes over the years.
