Hapoel Haifa Nears Deal for Striker Alexandru Pop

Hapoel Haifa is reportedly close to finalizing a deal for Romanian striker Alexandru Pop from Dinamo Bucharest. The move comes after a disappointing 4-2 loss to Hapoel Jerusalem, marking their second defeat of the season in the Israeli Premier League. Pop is expected to fill the void left by Adrian Grbic, who was sold to Hapoel Be'er Sheva.

The club's professional staff identified Pop, 26, as a suitable replacement after extensively reviewing his game footage. He is described as a fast player who can also operate on the wing, and he is currently in good form, having started seven matches this season for Dinamo Bucharest, who are currently leading the Romanian league. Pop has scored and assisted this season, including against Universitatea Craiova.

Pop's potential transfer has been reported in Romania, with claims that his recent appearance as a substitute in the derby against Steaua Bucharest was his last for Dinamo. Pop, originally from Buenos Aires, previously played for CFR Cluj and has spent his entire career in Romania. He was sold to Dinamo Bucharest for 125,000 euros in the winter of 2025 and scored five goals with two assists last season, becoming a regular starter in the upper playoff stage.
