Trump Administration Plans Post-War Middle East Strategy

The Trump administration is developing a comprehensive strategy for the Middle East focused on the "day after the war," aiming to establish a regional security framework to counter Iran and expand normalization efforts between Israel and its Arab neighbors. This initiative, currently in its early stages, is expected to be presented after the Israeli elections on October 27 and the U.S. midterm elections in November.

The strategy, discussed in recent meetings between President Trump and his senior advisors, reportedly includes creating a U.S.-guaranteed regional alliance of allied nations to contain Iran, without the U.S. acting as a regional police force. It also aims to resolve outstanding issues in Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon, potentially advancing the next phase of the Trump plan for Gaza and reaching security agreements with Syria and Lebanon.

A key component of the plan is the expansion of the Abraham Accords, with a focus on achieving a normalization agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel. U.S. officials hope that any new Israeli government formed after the upcoming elections will cooperate with this strategy.

However, senior U.S. officials emphasize that Trump is committed to pursuing this strategy regardless of the Israeli election outcome, even if it results in political deadlock. Trump has privately indicated he is working on "something much bigger" for the region post-war.

Sources familiar with the process suggest the strategy is still being formulated and will take several more weeks to finalize. It remains unclear whether all U.S. allies in the region will be able to participate in the proposed security framework.
