Gantz and Erdan Unity Talks Collapse Ahead of Election Deadline

Negotiations between Benny Gantz, leader of the Blue and White party, and Gilad Erdan, head of the Unity party, have failed to reach an agreement for a joint electoral list. Gantz announced the collapse of the talks following another meeting between the two leaders on Friday.

Sources within the Unity party accused Blue and White of not engaging in substantive discussions and of not being committed to achieving unity to strengthen their political bloc. "Blue and White never tried to discuss substantive issues, and did not agree to go all the way for unity to unite the bloc," Unity party sources told N12.

The failure comes just days before the deadline for submitting party lists to the Central Elections Committee. This development follows a statement made by Unity party member Yuli Edelstein last Sunday, who expressed optimism about an imminent union, though he could not guarantee it.

Despite a "positive" meeting last week and an agreement to maintain contact, the latest round of talks concluded unsuccessfully. A Channel 12 poll indicated that neither party, nor a combined list, would currently pass the electoral threshold, with a joint list projected to receive only 2.6% of the vote.
