Gantz's National Unity Party Rejects Alliance With Erdan's Party for Upcoming Elections

The National Unity Party, led by Knesset member Benny Gantz, announced on Friday that it will not run in the upcoming 26th Knesset elections on a joint list with the "Ha'Achdut" party, headed by former Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan. This decision follows a meeting between Gantz and Erdan, concluding negotiations that had been ongoing for several days.

The primary objective of the talks was to form a single electoral slate for both parties, a move driven by recent opinion polls indicating that neither party would individually cross the electoral threshold. The proposed alliance aimed to overcome this hurdle by pooling their resources.

A key point of contention throughout the negotiations reportedly centered on who would lead the joint list. Despite the final meeting between Gantz and Erdan, no agreement was reached on this or other aspects of the alliance, leading to the National Unity Party's definitive announcement.

Consequently, both parties are now expected to contest the 26th Knesset elections separately, with the National Unity Party officially closing the door on the possibility of a pre-election coalition with Ha'Achdut.
