Gantz-Ardan Coalition Talks Collapse Ahead of Candidate Deadline

Negotiations between Benny Gantz, leader of the National Unity party, and Gilad Erdan, head of a new party, have officially collapsed just days before the deadline for submitting candidate lists for the 26th Knesset. The breakdown occurred after a crucial meeting where Gantz decided against a merger, citing his vision for a broader "third bloc" that failed to materialize. Gantz concluded that a limited union solely with Erdan's party would not be politically beneficial without wider support.

Sources within Erdan's party sharply criticized Gantz, accusing his camp of leaking information to the media to gain prominence rather than engaging in substantive discussions. They claimed that Gantz's party never seriously addressed core issues and was unwilling to "go all the way to unity." This mutual recrimination highlights deep-seated distrust between the two political figures as the deadline looms.
