Maccabi Tel Aviv are still searching for a coach for next season, even after Steven van Weeren was appointed sporting director a few days ago. Mexican reports say one of the candidates, Efraín Juárez, ultimately rejected the Israeli club.
According to reporter David Faitelson, Juárez, who most recently coached Pumas in Mexico, was in negotiations with Maccabi Tel Aviv and also with Mallorca. In the end, he chose to return to Gijón, a club he previously represented.
Juárez also has experience working under Ronny Deila at three clubs, New York City, Standard Liège and Club Brugge. His coaching resume includes notable signings at Pumas, among them veteran goalkeeper Keylor Navas and Aaron Ramsey.
The Mexican coach has also managed Atlético Nacional, one of Colombia’s biggest clubs. For now, Maccabi Tel Aviv remain without a head coach for the 2026 season.
