From Jerusalem Youth Player to Tel Aviv Star: Roey Alkokin's Rise

Roey Alkokin, a midfielder for Hapoel Tel Aviv, is experiencing a strong start to the season, contributing significantly with two goals and an assist across all competitions. His current success with Hapoel Tel Aviv is notable given his origins in the youth system of their rivals, Beitar Jerusalem. Alkokin, originally from Jerusalem, played for Beitar Jerusalem until the age of 15 before making the move to Hapoel Tel Aviv, a decision influenced by coach Omer Boxenboim.

During his time in Hapoel Tel Aviv's youth academy, Alkokin won titles and achieved double-digit goal tallies in some seasons. In the summer of 2023, he extended his contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv and was promoted to the senior team. He was subsequently loaned to Maccabi Herzliya during their relegation season.

Last season, Alkokin made a significant step forward, appearing in 35 matches across all competitions and scoring four goals with four assists. This season, following the sale of Luizão, Alkokin has seized an opportunity in the midfield. Despite the arrival of Douglas Owusu, Alkokin has solidified his place in coach Eliniv Barda's starting lineup.
