Israel's Ministry of Health has recommended a temporary ban on fishing in the Mediterranean Sea near desalination facilities. The recommendation follows treatment for an algae bloom in the area and is intended to address uncertainties about the algae's identity and the treatment's effects.
The ministry clarified that the recommendation applies solely to fishing activities and does not affect the safety of fish currently available in markets. Furthermore, the quality of drinking water remains unaffected by the algae bloom or the treatment process.
The ban will remain in effect until monitoring results confirm that there is no risk to public health. Fishing will be permitted again once these safety assurances are met.
