Three Chinese EVs Earn Top Safety Ratings in Euro NCAP Tests

The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has released its latest crash test results, with three Chinese electric vehicles achieving the maximum five-star safety rating. The Aiways U6, Geely E2, and Leapmotor B05 all secured top marks without significant reservations.

The Aiways U6, an electric hatchback expected to launch in Israel in two weeks, received five stars, scoring 91% for crash protection and 88% for post-crash safety. However, Euro NCAP noted its heavy reliance on touchscreen controls and the absence of a child reminder system.

The Geely E2, a small electric supermini slated for an early 2024 Israeli release, also earned five stars. It achieved 86% for crash protection and an impressive 95% for post-crash safety. The organization pointed out inconsistencies in its emergency braking system and noted that a child's seatbelt could partially slip off, with insufficient leg protection for the driver in certain impacts.

The Leapmotor B05, a compact family car, also achieved a five-star rating, with scores of 92% for crash protection and 89% for post-crash safety. Testers highlighted a lack of occupant detection and a preference for physical buttons over touchscreen operation.

In contrast, the Cupra Raval, a small electric car, received four stars in its standard configuration, improving to five stars only with an optional safety package. The report mentioned its lack of a child reminder system and borderline chest protection in side-impact tests. The Kia K4 and Mercedes-Benz CLE (convertible version) also received four or five-star ratings depending on equipment levels.
