The FBI has thwarted at the last moment a plot aimed at the White House, U.S. media reported Tuesday. According to the reports, the attack was intended for an UFC event held in honor of President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday and involved explosive drones and sniper fire.
The alleged plan was to drive the crowd away from the venue and toward a sniper team waiting at another location. In a second wave, the attackers were then expected to open fire and storm the White House gates.
Separately, eight American crew members were killed overnight when a B-52 bomber crashed at Edwards Air Force Base in California. The U.S. Army said the aircraft went down shortly after takeoff during a routine test mission. The cause remains under investigation, but initial indications suggest nobody could have survived the deadly accident.
Those killed included civilians, government employees, contractors and military personnel. The U.S. Air Force commander expressed condolences to the families, and the service wrote on its official X account: “We sadly confirm the tragic death of eight of our crew members following the crash of a B-52 aircraft. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones.”
