FBI Says It Disrupted Major Plot Targeting White House UFC Event
The FBI says it foiled a large-scale attack planned for UFC Freedom 250 at the White House, an event held Sunday to mark President Donald Trump’s birthday. Authorities said the suspected plot was aimed at creating mass panic at the high-profile gathering, which drew about 4,300 people, including roughly 1,200 active-duty soldiers, and featured 14 fighters competing in a ring set up on site.
According to the FBI, it received information about the threat on June 10 and launched a multi-state operation with other law-enforcement agencies and the U.S. Department of Justice. That effort led to multiple arrests and disrupted the plan. Sources familiar with the investigation told Fox News that five people were arrested and 23 individuals were identified as part of a possible network behind the plot.
Investigators said the alleged plan involved drone-borne explosives intended to strike structures near the event, trigger a mass evacuation, and push the crowd toward a pre-positioned sniper team. They also said a second wave was planned, in which attackers would rush the White House gate. One suspect was arrested in Cincinnati after authorities found legal grounds for his detention.
The investigation expanded after agents reviewed Signal messages discussing the alleged operation. A preliminary look at one suspect’s iPhone reportedly identified at least 23 Signal users talking about preparations. Authorities said some participants planned to travel to Fredericksburg, Virginia, on June 12 or June 13 to prepare. One suspect allegedly told investigators the target was “capitalist elites,” “billionaires,” or politicians who had received donations from AIPAC.
