Iran Launches "Decisive" Retaliation Against US Strikes; Trump Threatens Annihilation

Iran announced a "decisive" retaliatory strike against the United States on Tuesday evening, September 1, as American strikes on Iranian territory continued. Tehran reported launching missiles at U.S. bases in Jordan and shooting down an MQ-9 drone over Iranian airspace. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran fired eight missiles at a U.S. military base in Jordan, all of which were intercepted. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed U.S. forces attacked sites on Iran's southern coast, including civilian targets, and that their initial response was destroying an American MQ-9. Explosions were reported on September 1, 2026, in Bandar-Abbas, Qeshm Island, Chabahar, Jask, Sirik, and Minab, locations along the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. Iranian sources reported two civilian deaths and approximately 50 injuries in Sirik during an attack on a wedding celebration. Roughly 90 minutes after the U.S. operation began, Trump confirmed large-scale U.S. strikes on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz, calling them a response to Iran's failed attempt to plant naval mines and a missile attack on a U.S. base in Jordan. Trump warned that any further Iranian reaction would result in a significantly more powerful U.S. strike, stating that "very little" would remain of the Islamic Republic after it concluded.
